A Trip to the Neues Museum

Once you land in the German capital you must go for a Berlin car rental and rush to Museum Island. That is if you want to see one of the most beautiful women in the world. She is undoubtedly Nefertiti. The Egyptian queen has overshadowed the fame of Cleopatra. She has at last found a resting place as beautiful as herself. This is the Neues Museum.

Neues Museum is home to the Egyptian collection of ancient papyrus and artefacts. The collection is so regal that it would not be out of place to arrive in a luxury rental car. Indeed the original Neues Museum was the brainchild of the King of Prussia, Frederick William IV. The construction started in 1841. The building of the Museum also became a monument to the new age of machines and industrialisation. For the first time steam engines were used to perform various tasks.

Museum Island is a unique area with many museums connected to each other with underground passages. The Neues Museum was the second museum to be built here after the Altes Museum. The Museum is also home to prehistoric finds. The Egyptian Courtyard has been the source of inspiration to many artists wishing to give an Egyptian look to their creations.

The first sight of the Neues Museum makes a Berlin car rental vehicle worth the money spent. Many additions and changes were made to the original museum till it was closed down in 1939 because of World War II. Many parts of the building and precious ancient treasures were destroyed by the Allied bombings of Berlin. The museum became a sad relic of its original glory for many years.

The attempt to reconstruct the Neues Museum to its original grandeur began in earnest in 1997. The Berlin Wall had fallen and the free world could help in the reconstruction. David Chipperfield, an Englishman was selected as the architect to rebuild the museum. Nearly 300 million euros were spent before the Museum again had an imposing presence. Many people do take a luxury rental car to arrive at this proposed World Heritage museum.

Once you are there in your Berlin car rental vehicle do not forget to see the Egyptian Courtyard, Nubian Room, Egyptian Tombs Room, Greek Room and the hypostyle.
